2017 OTAC Advocacy Day (All Day)

Join us for the 2017 Advocacy Day at the Sacramento Capitol

You are invited to come learn about and advocate on OTAC’s priority bills that are currently in the legislature that could have a direct impact on the profession of occupational therapy and/or the clients that we serve. Participants will receive talking points on the priority legislative bills that we will discuss during our legislative visits as well as tips on professional conduct during legislative visits. All participants will participate in legislative visits with legislators and their staff members from their local districts.

Lunch included.

We will make the legislative visit appointments.

9:00am-9:15am: Welcome and introductions
9:15am-9:30am: Review of priority legislative bill talking points
9:30am-9:45am: How-to: legislative visits and professional conduct
9:45am-9:50am: Review of legislative visit schedules
9:50am: Adjournment; proceed to legislative visits
10:00am-12:00pm: Legislative visits
12:00pm-1:00pm: Lunch with a legislator 
1:00pm-3:00pm: Legislative visits

Lifestyle Design: Using Occupational Self-Analysis as an Intervention Tool in Behavioral Health Settings
by Karen McCarthy, OTD, OTR/L and Jeanne Jackson, PhD, FAOTA

Program Description and Learning Objectives:
This seminar will enable OTs working in mental health to create a lifestyle design interventionfor their service. The speakers will cover the findings from the USC Well Elderly Study I & II,illuminate the core principles of lifestyle design, and discuss why analyzing occupationsmatters and is key for our clients’ well-being. OTs will be guided through the process ofcreating a needs assessment for their specific service and will develop ideas for group andindividual interventions in a mental/behavioral health setting.

Join Us for the Region 3 Legislative Reception - CANCELLED

This Legislative Reception provides a forum for occupational therapy practitioners to interact with legislators and their staff about health care issues that occupational therapy practitioners are facing. This event will provide an opportunity for our profession to dialogue about the changes we want to see, advocate for the occupational therapy profession, and discuss key issues in health care with legislative representatives and their staff.
