During this session, the presenter will review the recent regulatory changes and their implications for occupational therapy practitioners in the public sector.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will better understand the public behavioral health system of care in California.
- Participants will strengthen their understanding of limits and opportunities regarding recent regulatory changes regarding occupational therapy in California’s public behavioral health system of care.
- Participants will be able to identify actions they might take within their particular practice context regarding the regulatory changes.
Presenter: Deborah B. Pitts, PhD, OTR/L, BCMH, CPRP, FAOTA, Professor of Clinical Occupational Therapy, USC Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy.
Deborah B. Pitts, PhD, OTR/L, BCMH, CPRP, FAOTA, is AOTA Board Certified in Mental Health and currently serves as a professor of clinical occupational therapy with the USC Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy. She is a member of the California Behavioral Health Planning Council and the California Department of Health Care Services Behavioral Health Stakeholders Advisory Committee. In these roles she has advocated for occupational therapy to be identified as a licensed mental health professional (LMHP) for over 20 years.
